The Soundiron Angklung is a full-ranged traditional tuned percussion instrument from Indonesia, dating back to the 7th Century AD. It has spread widely throughout Southeast Asia and Polynesia, featuring in traditional and modern music, from gamelan orchestras to pop bands and jazz ensembles.
The Angklung consists of several individual single-note instruments, each comprising a pair of bamboo tubes in a higher/lower octave pair. The result is a uniquely full, clear but short-sustaining, dry note. This massive dedicated Angklung multi-sample library includes 18 Angklung notes, tuned over a major scale spanning nearly 3 full octaves. The samples were recorded up close in a dry studio and in a large open hall with 3 mic positions (close, mid, far). Each up and down stroke was recorded separately, with 48 round-robin variations per-velocity/per-note for the dry samples (24 up/24 down) and 16 round-robin variations per-velocity/per-note for the hall samples (8 up/8 down). We also captured natural hand-played sustaining loops at different speeds and intensities, with smooth dynamic cross-fading between layers and adjustable release samples. Additionally, a full collection of sustaining pads, ambiences, and soundscapes created from the raw bamboo angklung recordings complements the library's sonic flavor and soul.
We've integrated this library with an upgraded version of our celebrated Uberpeggiator meta-arpeggiation system, allowing you to create realistic sustaining angklung rolls with multi-sample presets that have completely fluid attack, sustain, and release behavior. The system provides precise real-time speed/tempo and intensity controls, with optional host tempo-syncing and velocity graphing, giving you total control and the ability to incorporate the instrument into various music genres while preserving its real-world sound and feel. The instrument primarily uses our Uberpeggiator's EZ-Roll mode but sounds just as good in the other Uber modes. With the Uberpeggiator turned off, it also works as a single-strike wooden mallet tuned bamboo percussion instrument.
You also have full control over the instrument's tightness and character with our host-automatable attack, offset, release, swell, and micro-tuning dials. Additionally, you can adjust the ensemble “width" of the instrument to increase or decrease the stereo left-right spread of the individual angklungs. Our custom convolution reverb room/FX impulse selectors and a 3-band parametric EQ are also included, providing full user control and sound quality.
