Little Pump Reeds

Little Pump Reeds is a unique collection of small hand-held air-driven reed-based instruments, featuring high-quality hand-crafted traditional Indian Shruti Boxes, a mini accordion, a Plastisax, and a lovely 14-note concertina. Each instrument in this library has been sampled thoroughly and lovingly, with a strong focus on playability and musicality. The instruments offer surprisingly rich and full sounds that rival those of larger, full-range instruments.

The Concertina includes 14 notes, sampled at multiple dynamic levels and various articulations, evoking the calm of a night in the Italian countryside. The Shruti Box, similar in tone to the harmonium, is commonly used as a drone instrument in Indian classical music, as well as new age and Celtic folk music. The mini accordion, with its 14 keys and 4 bass drones, spans three octaves and offers a warm, fat tone that belies its small size. The Plastisax, resembling a child's plastic soprano saxophone, sounds like a cross between a harmonica and a reed organ, making it ideal for children's music or layering with woodwinds or organs.

Additionally, the library includes a small palm-sized cardboard and paper ‘concertina’ found in a local toy store, used as a hand percussion instrument named the “Paper Squeezebox.”
