apVerb is an innovative audio plugin for creating algorithmic reverbs with exceptional smoothness and flexibility. The plugin generates reverb using thousands of semi-randomly spaced delay lines, inspired by a recently invented form of noise called ‘velvet noise’. This unique approach results in resonance-free reverb tails that surpass the smoothness, flexibility, and stereo width of traditional reverb algorithms. The delay lines are processed by filters and effects, enabling a wide range of reverb and innovative effects.

apVerb offers full control over many parameters over time, thanks to 23 curve-based multi-segment envelopes. This allows for the creation of traditional reverbs as well as unique effects like reverse reverbs, reverb losing density over time, increasing frequency bandwidth over time, and delay-like effects. The plugin also syncs all envelope and pre-delay times to the host tempo, making rhythmic effects possible. Additionally, it includes an early reflections generator based on simulated virtual room geometries and three effects: chorus, phase distortion, and saturation that can be applied to user-defined time/frequency regions of the reverb. The wet signal can be controlled by input dynamics using a ducking algorithm or by resetting the reverb tail at attacks/transients.

Key Features:

  • Super Smooth Reverb Body Modeling: Delivers smooth, flexible reverb tails with exceptional stereo width.
  • 23 Spline Envelopes: Control volume, density, filters, effects, and stereo parameters over reverb time using adjustable-weight control points.
  • Spectrogram Model Visualization: Inspired by topographic maps for intuitive visualization.
  • Host Tempo Sync: Sync all reverb envelope and pre-delay times to the host tempo for creating rhythmic effects.
  • Early Reflections Room Simulation: Includes three types of early reflections based on simulated room geometries.
  • Advanced Frequency Section: Features continuously-variable-pole low-pass & high-pass filters and two parametric EQs, all controllable by envelopes.
  • Chorus, Phase Distortion, and Saturation Effects: These effects are controllable over time for added flexibility.
  • Dynamics Section: Includes ducking and tail reset based on input level/transients.
  • Dry/Wet Mixer: Option to exclude the dry level from preset switches.
  • Unlimited Undo/Redo: Allows for unlimited undo and redo of all actions.
  • Plugin Formats: Supports AudioUnits, AAX, VST3, and VST on macOS and Windows.
  • Preset Management: Built-in system-wide preset management with import/export of preset files, compatible across platforms and hosts using a human-readable XML file format.
  • Customizable UI: Bright & dark color schemes and support for user-defined color schemes.
Demo limitations: After 4 minutes, faded bursts of random noise are added to the plugin output. Presets cannot be exported/saved to the preset menu. A demo welcome dialog is shown for 5 seconds when the plugin interface is opened.
