XILS 201 Vocoder

The X201 Vocoder is modeled after a legendary, ultra-rare vocoder unit that was highly coveted for its unmatched intelligibility and distinct sound quality. This vocoder delivers a rich, vintage feel, reminiscent of iconic artists like Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock, Frank Farian (Boney M, Milli Vanilli), and Daft Punk. The X201 goes beyond traditional vocoders by offering two Filter Banks with 20 different frequency bands, enabling exceptional clarity and musicality, surpassing models like the Roland VP-330, which only had 10 bands.

The internal analog synthesizer adds to the characteristic sound of the X201, allowing for a variety of signal inputs, including external synthesizers, voices, or even drums. The ‘Silence Bridging’ feature, a multiband frequency-dependent Envelope Follower engine, shapes the signal gain according to its harmonic content, adding contour to percussive or rhythmic material.

Simply input a voice, even without singing, and use the internal synth as the Carrier, sending MIDI notes to make your voice ‘sing’ those notes, either as single notes or polyphonic chords. This powerful polyphonic vocoder is further enhanced with vintage analog effects like Chorus, Phaser, Delay, and a classic reverb unit, which can be arranged in custom effect chains, making the X201 not only a vocoder but also a versatile Multi-FX processor.
