Mercury-6 is a precise recreation of the Jupiter-6 analog polyphonic synthesizer, originally released in 1983. Positioned between the Jupiter-4 and Jupiter-8 models, the Jupiter-6 has earned its place as one of Roland’s most coveted classic synthesizers. Despite being considered a “sleeper” release, it has gained a reputation for its dark and complex character, making it popular among big beat, house, and techno producers.
Cherry Audio’s Mercury-6 captures all the exceptional qualities of the original Jupiter-6 and enhances them for today’s DAW production. We’ve added velocity sensitivity, improved the split mode, and introduced a layer mode that allows for stacking two different sounds with per-layer stereo panning, detuning, and sustain. A dedicated panel control lets users easily navigate between these layers and includes a utility function for exchanging settings between layers or presets.
Mercury-6 extends the polyphony to 16 notes, ensuring ample voices for complex arrangements. We’ve faithfully reproduced the arpeggiator, including the original’s hidden Up/Down modes, and added new features like Random mode and MIDI tempo sync. A chord memory mode allows multiple notes to be triggered with a single key, and we’ve improved the LFO functionality with a retrigger option for LFO-1 and an always-on option for LFO-2, both of which can sync to MIDI tempo.
In addition, Mercury-6 includes an integrated studio-quality effects panel featuring distortion, phaser, flanger/chorus, delay, and reverb. Additional touches like per-layer drift control, over 500 expertly designed presets, and flexible MIDI mapping bring the authentic Jupiter-6 experience to the modern era.
