The Pro Soloist Synthesizer by Cherry Audio is a top-tier virtual instrument that goes beyond simply emulating the legendary 1972 ARP Pro Soloist. This meticulously crafted software synth combines the precise circuit-modeled DSP designs of award-winning developer Mark Barton with an expanded set of features that make it fully programmable and versatile for modern production environments. Pro Soloist faithfully recreates the original’s 30 expressive presets, while adding full polyphony, split and layer modes, a robust modulation matrix, integrated studio-quality effects, and much more.

Originally introduced in the early 1970s, preset synthesizers like the ARP Soloist were designed to simplify synthesis for musicians and make it more accessible. The Pro Soloist, introduced in 1972, was revolutionary for its time, featuring digital read-only memory chips for improved tuning stability and an innovative “touch sensor” keyboard, which allowed for expressive control through aftertouch. Cherry Audio’s Pro Soloist not only preserves these innovative features but also expands upon them with a host of modern enhancements.

Cherry Audio has introduced a dual-layer voicing architecture, offering 16 polyphonic voices per layer. This allows for two distinct presets to be played simultaneously, with independent panning for rich stereo effects and complex soundscapes. Additionally, a split keyboard mode and polyphonic aftertouch simulation expand the expressive capabilities of the instrument even further.

The Pro Soloist’s three-panel interface provides intuitive access to its extensive feature set. Performance mode replicates the original’s paddle presets, while Edit mode exposes all the unique analog synthesis parameters, including the distinctive five parallel bandpass filters of the Resonator Bank. Arp/FX mode rounds out the feature set with a syncable arpeggiator and a suite of studio-quality effects. Full MIDI support and a modern DAW integration make the Pro Soloist a versatile tool for contemporary producers.
