The Sonoris Mastering Equalizer (SMEQ) is a highly precise parametric equalizer designed for both mixing and mastering applications. With 7 fully configurable bands, it allows users to select between linear phase and minimum phase operation per band. This flexibility makes the SMEQ perfect for enhancing or correcting complex material—whether it’s orchestral recordings, solo instruments, or full mixes—without introducing unwanted coloration or artifacts. Its advanced linear phase algorithm, based on backward-forward filtering, eliminates issues like transient smearing or imaging alteration, providing a truly transparent sound.
The linear phase implementation in SMEQ uses IIR filters rather than the traditional FIR filters commonly found in linear phase equalizers. This allows for more efficient processing while maintaining an analog-like response. Whether you’re cutting or boosting frequencies, SMEQ ensures that the original audio integrity is preserved, making it possible to apply more dramatic EQ adjustments than with conventional equalizers.
In addition to standard stereo processing, the SMEQ provides mid/side (M/S) channel processing. This functionality is particularly useful in mastering, where users can enhance or modify specific elements of the stereo field, such as boosting a centered vocal while leaving the side channels unaffected, or tightening the bass in the mid channel without affecting the stereo image.
Key Features:
- 7-Band Parametric EQ: Offers lowpass, highpass, peaking, and shelving filters, all with selectable linear or minimum phase operation.
- Precision and Transparency: Linear phase processing ensures that boosting or cutting frequencies will not alter transients or stereo imaging, maintaining the natural depth and clarity of the original mix.
- Mid/Side Processing: Each band can process stereo, left, right, mid, or side channels independently, giving users full control over specific elements of the audio.
- Upsampling: Manual or automatic upsampling (2x, 4x, 8x) enhances the plugin’s accuracy, particularly at higher frequencies, ensuring precise EQ adjustments.
- Spectrum Analyzer: Includes a built-in spectrum analyzer and large graphical display with three zoom levels for detailed visual feedback on EQ adjustments.
- Scalable UI: Resizable user interface allows for a more customized and comfortable working experience.
