This is a systematic capture of a Jensen Vintage Ceramic C12R speaker, from the Vintage Series, installed in two different enclosures: a 1×12″ Open Back cabinet and a 2×12″ Open Back cabinet, for a total of 1216 IRs. Developed in conjunction with a Jensen Speakers product specialist, this library recreates the most authentic playing experience, as if you were playing an original speaker.

Typically used in vintage lower-powered 12” amps for studio or practice, the C12R is a clear-sounding, sparkling speaker, very sensitive to the character of the amplifier. When paired with a stout, rich, and warm electronic design, it can do wonders. Ampeg® Jets and Reverberockets are just some of the most revered amps that featured the C12R as their factory choice. Installed in a vintage-correct selection of cabinets, the C12R shines in each of the 19 microphones and 16 position capturing.

This library also includes the remastered version of all the IRs. The vintage Jensen speakers were designed mainly for clean tones. The maximum overdrive achievable back in those days was generated by the amplifier’s natural clipping and compression, and maybe by some of the earlier fuzz pedals. Those speakers were voiced for sparkly, shimmering treble response, with a remarkable amount of energy well over 6kHz, to be coupled with the warm-sounding circuits and the thin, resonant cabinets of the era. The IRs of the Vintage Jensen Speakers behave exactly as expected—bright, clear, and detailed.

In the modern world, especially with high gain tones, naturally very rich in harmonic overtones, all this energy in the treble range may sometimes result in an overly bright, aggressive tone. To further expand the possible applications of these historical speakers, we decided to offer all the Vintage Jensen IRs also in a “Remastered” option, where we finely tuned the top-end response to be warmer and less prominent, making it suitable for more contemporary, higher gain applications. A sort of virtual “aged tone” that offers a whole new range of sounds for every application. All the IRs in the library are effectively doubled by the “Remastered” version, opening up new possibilities to the player, once again “beyond the original hardware.”

Key Features:

  • Systematic Capture: Includes 1216 IRs developed with a Jensen product specialist to ensure authenticity.
  • Clear and Sparkling Sound: The C12R is known for its sensitivity to the amplifier’s character, delivering a clear, sparkling tone.
  • Remastered Version: Includes a remastered version of all IRs with a warmer top-end response for contemporary applications.
  • SuperCabinet Integration: Designed for use with Overloud’s TH-U SuperCabinet for advanced IR browsing, blending, and exporting.
The library was captured using the following microphones:

  • AKG C12
  • AKG C414
  • AKG C414 XLS
  • Audio Technica AT4033
  • Beyerdynamic M160
  • Coles 4038
  • Electro Voice RE16
  • Groove Tubes MD1
  • Neumann KM84
  • Neumann U47
  • Neumann U87
  • RODE NT1
  • Royer R121
  • Sennheiser E609
  • Sennheiser MD421
  • Shure B52
  • Shure SM57
  • Shure SM58
  • Shure SM81

Each microphone was positioned in four different horizontal locations (Cap, Cap Edge, Cone, and Cone Edge), at two distances and two angles, resulting in 16 IRs per microphone. This setup was repeated for each cabinet in the library. All IRs have been phase-aligned to ensure they can be blended without phase cancellations.
